Position Summary:

The Assistant Teacher shall assist the lead teacher in implementing a structured classroom on an ongoing basis. The Assistant teacher shall be responsible for aiding the lead teacher in the implementation of the daily schedule and routine, leading activities, ensuring the safety and security of students, and supervision of students at all times. The Assistant teacher shall develop nurturing relationships with the students within a context of consistency and structured routines. This role also includes, but is not limited to assisting with administrative/operational duties and covering the lunch breaks of staff. The assistant teacher is to attend trainings, workshops, and seminars as requested by the Program Director to meet childcare requirements. The assistant teacher is also expected to help lead the classroom temporarily in the event that a lead teacher is absent.

Position Requirements: 

  • Candidates must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) as well as have the appropriate training in the field with 3 years prior experience.  New York State certified as an assistant teacher (CDA) preferred.
  • Prior experience working in early childhood preferred.
  • DOE/DOI/PETS Fingerprint Clearance
  • CBC Clearance
  • SCR clearance
  • Mandated Reporter certificate (Must receive online before starting position)
  • Foundations in Health and Safety e-Learning (Must receive online before starting position)
  • Prevention and Identification of Brain Injuries, including Abusive Head Trauma (AHT) ( Must receive online before starting position)
  • Preventing Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Promoting Safe Sleeping (Must receive online before starting position)
